I'm in the process of changing the pads for my silver plated Conn Wonder Curved Soprano. However, I don't think I can keep this sax for long as I really am running out of room and the wife is complaining....

Does any one have any suggestion or idea at what price I should sell this nice little saxophone for? :?

Kessler Music sold one of these last week on ebay for $500.
Gandalfe - I suspect that one would have sold for a bit more, I've been scanning for Sops since my purchase screwed up - I'd have leapt on that one, it was probably a " now you see it, now you don't, gone-fast BIN "....

Interestingly, and slightly off-topic, it was bought by us-buyer1, with over thirty-two thousand feedback - an organisation that buys on behalf of Japanese clients, from US sellers who just sell/ship within the US. Neat, eh ?

soprano

Hi all...yes, selling the soprano because I already have 3, one of which is a TT curved soprano that's a little more beat up. I suppose if I sell the smallest saxophone I have, it will not be too noticible to me with regards to its "loss".

I'll try to post pictures later.

The conn goes up to high F, and it's without the ring thumb rest for the right hand. All pearl buttons. Looks just like a mini alto sax. Silver plated bell insides. I think it's from 1919. Engraved is L for low pitch and Conn Ltd on bell.

Any ideas on pricing? I see a separate register keyed nickel plated one in usa horn website going for $1650.

I know this is not a marketplace section, but I reckon the value with normal wear and tear should be around $700-900 with everything original and intact. That ebay conn horn serves $500, it doesnt look good. I bought a curved TT soprano for around that price, had to do lots work with that.

What does other think?

Yeah, the thumb rest is there - the usual curved metal piece. Everything is intact and in good condition. Includes original case and some items like conn cork grease (really old grease, maybe from sperm whales? or some extinct dodo bird...)

In any case, I suppose if the sax plays well, since I am doing the repadding, it would fetch a higher price....

Anyone has any ideas if the nail-file conns (ring thumb rest)and the really early ones with metal buttons instead of pearls (wonder models i think) are any different in pitch, tone etc etc?

I sold mine recently for about £1100 on ebay. I was very pleased with that.

Hi Pete, that's a h*ll lot of money for an old girl! Have not been offered so much so far. I suppose in different countries, it would have different demands and thus prices....should I put it up in ebay.co.uk then?

I don't suppose it would do any harm. Anyone bidding would need to factor in shipping, duty and VAT though.

I put it on with a very low starting price and no reserve, I think that helps to get a final good price as loads of people get interested from the start.

sop

Okay, will decide what to do after I fix it up. Am waiting to get some time to collect pads from the shop.

In anycase, any ideas about the differences in the different Conn curved sops? I wonder if there are great improvements from the earlier ones from the early 1910s with metal buttons instead of pearl? I understand that some had removable necks. Wonder models I think...The priciest ones are the later ones I suppose- those with the nailfile G#. One was sold for USD$1500!

mjs10 - are you an expert in these? Please advise.

And anyone else, dead or alive (no one was born in the 20s here?) who can shed some light in this?

BTW, are Martin soldered tone beveled tone hole curved sopranos rare and highly in-demand?
