Here are but a few of me performing over the period of the last three years.

My set-up is:
Soprano, Alto, Tenor saxes, triple stand and tripler case
Clarinet and stand
Fender Passport P-150
SM-58
Speaker stands and cables
Vocal processor multi-efx unit
Direct box
Music Stand
Charts in set order
Apple iPod
Folding Wheeled Dolly which allows me to bungie cord everything above on to it for very easy in and out.

Takes me 10 minutes to load the dolly, and about 10 add'l minutes to set-up.

Cool!!

I usually play, when a solo performer, without any tracks, just the horn. It's funny, but works. You get a lot of attention, have a lot of tempo freedom, ad lib. more frequently... and a chance to re-phrase passages. Now, no way it can sound as a set as yours.

All the best,

JI

Brian, you got me.

1. How in the world do you use the guitar preamp??

2. All I can gather from the Wiki article is standing closer to the mic gives you 6dB more gain, and I should notch out any feedback frequency.

If you could be more specific, it would help me (and I bet others) save money and schleppage.

I am using it as a Direct Box not a Pre-amp. I am running my microphone through it prior to plugging it in to the pa which also is what is playing my backing tracks.

I mic check it until and twist the freq. knob until the feedback goes away. Actually I set it the first time and have never had to worry about it again.

Not a very technical explanation but that is the best I can do.

Looks very nice Brian, I have that same cute little PA system. Just a friendly suggestion... Try to memorize the charts and ditch the music stands in front of you. This is preventing you from properly connecting with your audience, creating a physical and emotional barrier on many levels and is a bigger deal than you may realize. I generally keep a music stand off the the side with notes, set lists, etc.

Now about your upgrade(s) in the saxophone dept... what's going on man???? Gotta have that dark cognac lacquer ay?? :lick:

Here is a fairly low quality video of me playing Summertime staged for the benefit of using on my website. I do plan on creating a High Def.
video soon and playing without the stand and music in front of me.

Brian:

Nice job on Summertime. You kept the head nice and clean, and did some good jamming on the solo part. Great long tones and a big, sweet tone.

Ditto on the complements for summertime, Brian. . You kept it interesing throughout and sounded like you were expressing your own ideas rather than trying to regurgitate someone else's. . You also seem to have a confident calm manner when playing.
