This tune is a monument for me. Untouchable. My playing is likely to be too old style anyway.

I heard Steps a couple of times. One concert was in a small venue in Geneva Switzerland, beginning of the 80s. The band was late due to troubles crossing the borders. When they finally could start, Michael Brecker, usually rather silent, made a long introduction, chatting, apologizing, as a way to relax after all the hassle. They played a memorable concert, starting with Tee Bag, and later on, a definitive version of Pools. We were sitting right in front of the band, 3 meters away. Unforgettable.

The way you get into it is really amazing. Specially the funky 2 chords (nasty keys...) vamp between the head and the solos. Nice backing track btw.

This is the short version. I have the longer one but I feel this is enough for most listeners patience.

Thanks for listening if you have time.

Best,

Alex
Perfect, my musician voice saying. Wonderful, my simple listener voice saying. And now "Ipanema" flow in auto play...
Thank you Michael. Yes it's a bit of a contrast I know.

Must have been a great concert for sure Dex. The backing track is from Bobby's Backing Tracks. Exceptional.

Wow, what a cool tune, the back and forth and low deep bass is the perfect catch! You nailed it from the start, your playing was spot on! Soft subtone, pushing it in the uppers, just amazing! Your control of the horn is spectacular and it shows every time I hear you. Such a pleasure!
