Hey all,

I've got a bit of an odd problem, and I'm not sure if it's me, the mouthpiece or both.

I have a Jupiter 7 series Alto with a Yamaha 3C Mouthpiece and a Rico Royal 2 reed. I have tried to play this quietly but fail to produce a note - my usual note is quite loud - yet I can make it much louder if I wanted to - so I'm hardly blasting it.

I also have a Venus Tenor with a Yamaha 4C and a Rico Royal 2 reed - and I can play this as quiet as a church mouse or as loud as the horn on a lorry.

I'm at a loss why I can be quiet very easily on one, but despite my best efforts I cannot on another.

Any suggestions?

I wonder if the Jupiter may have some leaks, which may make it harder to produce notes at a lower volume. When you play loud you can easily play through the leaks.

Only leak I can see is on the G# and it is slight at best. I pinned down the key to make sure and it still sounds out at quite a level and any less, I lose the note
