I saw him play an unaccompanied version of Lush Life during a set at Bulls Head in Barnes that was one of the most masterful performances I’ve ever experienced in person. One of the all time great alto players IMHO.

It's always sad to lose one of the greatest players. Certainly, the finest altoist of his time. I'd just been reading the many birthday tributes to him.
For one so accomplished, I found him very easy-going with eager fans, being lucky to chat with him a few times.

He certainly had a full life, also being immersed in classical music- he knew plenty about Bartok, for one. After his recent illness, at least he's at peace. RIP, Peter.
