I wanted to post this transcription of this solo here on SOTW forum. It is Pepper Adams's solo on the Donald Byrd/Duke Pearson tune "Each Time I Think of You" from the Donald Byrd Album The Cat Walk on the Blue Note Label.
Of the many great Pepper Adams solos on record, this is one of his best in my opinion. His tone, time, swing feel, and energy are all exceptional. The confidence he imparts into the solo is fantastic and very clearly outlines the harmony while still maintaining a compelling rhythmic drive - all of the elements that has made Pepper Adams a favorite of many.
I sincerely hope that some of you will find some use from this transcription. I had memorized this solo a couple of years ago and decided just yesterday to put it into Finale in a clearly readable form.
Aaron! You gave me your CD back at the Folsom festival earlier this year, and I never got a chance to tell you how much I enjoy listening to it!! I put it on all the time.
Oh, and I'm going to be going to UNT for college this fall! I'm really excited!
Glad you guys are getting some enjoyment from the transcription!
Funky Bebop - yeah, the head is transcribed, but not in Finale - only in manuscript. If I'm feeling especially industrious one of these days soon, I'll put it in Finale/pdf and post it here.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the effort. The parts look great. Hopeful I can get the jazz combo here at UAB to do it (along with Cat Walk). Hey....how about a whole set of Byrd/Pepper material. How Kool would that be!
