I am very sorry to report the passing of Paul Brodie today. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, the great ambassador of the saxophone, performer, and teacher.

This is sad news.....thank you Stretch for informing us.

I have the score to the "Sonata for Unaccompanied Alto Saxophone" by Richard Gibson (my composition teacher), a work that was commissioned by Paul Brodie and that I had the privilege of performing.

I will play it tomorrow in memory of Mr. Brodie.

Can someone post more information? The name rings a bell, but I am not sure why...

Always sorry to hear of a sax man's passing though.

I didn't expect this.

I never met Paul, but I spoke to him on the phone a couple of times. He helped me with some research on early saxophones and answered a questionnaire I sent.

Refreshingly positive. A really nice guy. I'm sorry.

Paul was an absolute sweetheart and one of the greatest modern ambassadors of the saxophone. I spoke with him on occasion a number of years ago, and it was always a pleasure. My first Jr. High solo competition was with a music minus one he did for beginning saxophone.

What a tremendous loss. :(

This caught me by surprise, even though I knew Paul has not been well.

Paul was a huge advocate for the saxophone, and incredibly generous with his time and knowledge.

Paul Brodie was a most gracious host at the 1972 WSC #3 in Toronto, and stood tall among the giants of "classical" saxophone throughout the past 40-plus years. His recorded legacy will continue to be available for those who
seek interpretive suggestions for their own utilization. His talent and enthusiasm for the art of the saxophone will be surely missed.

A link to an obituary and condolence book for anyone to contribute:
