I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to build up the right hand and left hand palm keys on a Martin Typewriter. I dearly love this sax, but man, the palm keys are hard to get to. I thought about shaping some cork and fixing it to the top of the pearl, but I don't want to do anything remotely destructive to the sax. Runyon key risers don't work because of the odd shape of the keys. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

epoxy putty - can be removed with heat with no damage to keys. Can be filed, sanded and wet sanded to shape - but best to mold them how you want them as they harden.

contact cement is fine for m.o.p
Good to know, thanks. I've got a typewriter bari on its way and was curious about risers too. I know it's often used to glue mop onto a key, but wasn't sure about the finished side.

Will epoxy adversely effect the mop?

Thanks again for the info.

I personally wouldn't do the epoxy straight on the pearl. I would probably go the cork way, but if you don't like the feel of cork and want something harder you can still do epoxy without epoxying the epoxy right to the pearl. Epoxy! Take a sheet of saran wrap and gently but tightly cover the pearl, and build your epoxy riser on that and let it set. Once it is set, peel off the riser and the saran wrap and then contact cement the riser to the pearl, which it should fit perfectly.

I have done cork and then applied 10-15 coats of nail polish (doesn't take as long as it sounds) to provide a nice feeling surface. I have never tried the Saran Wrap.
