I have discovered that small adustments of the pad with the needle and micro torch work best if I use small ammounts of heat.
I presume this is the case because with small ammounts of heat the shellac is gooy as opposed to being in a more liquid state
And gooy is more sticky,
Small ammounts of heat for pad adjustment also means I can hold the horn vertical without worrying that the shellace will extrude out the southside.
When I have to heat the cup a lot, I hold the horn horizonal.
