I was wondering if anyone has any sound clips of themselves (or others) playing one of the P Mauriat altos ... specifically the PMXA-67R .. ? I have heard a sound clip of a PM tenor, but not an alto, and I would love to hear one if anyone could post one!

Thank you, Selmersix! Sounds a bit brighter than I expected, but overall good tone, I think. Of course, mouthpiece makes a huge difference. Well, I will be finding out first hand soon, since my PMXA-67R was shipped Saturday! :)

The offiical P. Mauriat site has some links to sound clips in their online catolog, however, not all the links work (at least for the sopronos). Also, if you go to Roger Greenwoods site, the artists page has some links to the artists web pages, and some of them have sound clips.

I have been trying to find sound clips of the curvies, but have been unsuccessful.

Congratulations on the new horn. I have the 60ns and if your new one is of the same quality as mine, you will be very happy.

Thanks for the links to the clips. I have been curious about the alto sound as well.

The clip does sound bright. I do think the player was pushing it however. There are a couple of spots where he backs off and the sound is closer to the tenor in nature.

Candy, congrats on the new horn. Give us a full review when you get it.

Received my PMXA-67R today!! It definitely does not sound as bright as the above sound clip .... it has a warm and mellow "vintage" sound, but still quite loud and strong .... I love it!! Has a nice strong "core" sound and it goes with the flow, however you hold your emboucher .... easy for the player to control!

I will say this ... I played it with my own Meyer mouthpiece ... when I tried the P Mauriat mouthpiece that came with it, it sounded weak and weary ... then back to the Meyer and it blasts you out ... what a difference between a good mouthpiece, and the "standard" one that they include with the horn!

(PS ... my vintage Martin stencil alto is still for sale here, but may probably put it on ebay soon)

JMarshall .... you have a great "jazzy" sound ... very different from the sound I have heard on other 66F clips ... I imagine you use a brighter mouthpiece.

BBJQSAX .... I was particularly interested in the alto clip since my own horn is a 67R ... nice and mellow! It is also brighter than mine. Once again, probably the mouthpiece as well as the difference each player makes in their own embouchre (<spelling?) .... I do know that I have so far enjoyed playing mine, even tho I don't get the chance to do a lot of it .... Christmas season is so busy!
