I know loads of practice is needed for both overtones and altissimo, but do some horns lend themselves to these better than others due to quality/design/build?

It sure seems like it. I love my SX90, but I have a straight from eBay Martin Comm I that has a stuffy middle register and is in need of an adjustment(at least) and the overtones pop out noticeably easier.

Maybe.

I prefer Keilwerths overall, but I find that the most common altissimo fingerings definitely work better on Selmers.

Of course, this may just be due to the fact that these common altissimo fingerings are largely based on Selmers.
