Other names for the Clarinet?

15476 Views 47 Replies 33 Participants Last post by  Isle of Jazz
I'm not sure if this will be allowed in the saxophone discussion section but it's possibly quite pertinent to multi reed players. I'm not sure if this has been covered before so I apologise if it has.

My question is this, are there any other names by which the Clarinet is known other than by those that I can think of?

My contributions are (and in no order of preference)

1. The Licorice Stick (I guess that's the oldest);)

2. The Misery Stick:(

3. The Gloom Tube

Any others?

A colleague once called it the UGLY STICK.....
nobody said WITCH STICK
I think that's what they call the soprano sax.
fish horn
Satan's Wand

Beelzebub's Baton

Firestarter

The perfect Boomerang (if you throw it, it won't come back)
Ive gone with 'useless'

Also prefer the deathstick, kindling, a trampoline...
I remember in high school band I was on the instrument truck crew and all we ever called 'em was "Catch it on the first bounce".
