That's absolutely correct. I was lucky enough to be In NYC when he played the Blue Note after being out for a few years recovering from a stroke. I did exactly that, walked up to him, offered my hand and told him how much his playing had meant to me over the years as I struggled to be a better pianist. His response was just as you said, gracious.Much better pianist than Keith Jarrett...OK NOW I'M TROLLING, but he seems like someone you could have walked up to and shook his hand and gave him a compliment, and he would have smiled and said "Thank you", as opposed to Keith Jarrett saying "Yeah I know".
