I recently acquired a MINT condition Purple Logo YTS-62 and it came with the Original hardly touched 4C mouthpiece . My question is : Were these mouthpieces hard rubber ? I know the New Yamaha mouthpieces are plastic , but I was wondering if back in the '70's did they include a hard rubber mouthpiece before they started cutting cost ? Thanks !

My understanding is that those mouthpieces were available in both hard rubber and plastic. The plastic pieces were shipped with all student horns, the hard rubber was an item one could purchase. I see little point shipping a pro horn with a mouthpiece coz' all pro (or close to pro) players have their own pieces of choice. So your piece could be hard rubber. BTW - the Yamaha hard rubber pieces were considered less consistent than their plastic siblings.
