Can anyone tell me if the original pads with flat metal resonators screwed in? I’ve owned one and as I recall, it had a screw holding the resonator in place, just not sure if the cup had a female thread to screw into.

I don’t think the original resonators were screwed in, generally only resonators that are sold separately (and meant to be kept in case of an overhaul) have a screwed construction.

You can buy such resonators from several makers, I have the ones from tenor madness. Metal, domed or flat resonators, seamless or riveted, are available with many tipes of pads and unless you have a special reason to want to buy a set of separate resonators there is no real advantage in acquiring replaceable resonators.

A tech will not particularily enjoy to have to fit screwed in resonators because it adds a time consuming activity to the already long process.

the original pads of my my '72 SDA had flat metal resonatorss with a pivot in the middle- the earlier 50 Dynactions had no reso's at all great horns!
When you mention a pivot do you mean a rivet?

Are we talking about pads that had a spud in the cup that a screw and washer held the pad in like on a flute? The mention of pivot seems like the Selmer/Bundy adjustapads. Martin had some like that in the 20s.

What I recall on mine was a flat metal reso with a slotted screw at the center. I never pulled a pad so the heart of my question was is there a spud or does the screw just hold the reso on the pad?

Lol! Was looking for an A (screws into a spud) or B (screw just holds reso on pad, no female threads in the cup).
