It looks as though the engraving has been laquered over. I believe Selmers were engraved after laquering, which would indicate a relaquer to me. Also the color/patina doesn't look quite right for an original laquer American engraved horn.

In the last photo, looking straight-on at the bell, it looks like a relac. Doesn't really matter if you are keeping and playing the horn. It only matters in terms of sale value.

I question how much the horn has been abused - who would hang a mouthpiece on a horn, especially a Selmer tenor, with ripped pads?

I'm betting the seller is claiming "plays flawlessly from top to bottom, subtones beautifully, wails!"

I would lean toward a re-lacquer also as it's quite light in color and the S is lacquered in. The engraving still looks pretty nice to me though, so it seems it was not over-buffed.

On a side note: I used to own 7718x. It didnt do anything special for me. I wouldn't care re-lacquer or not if I intended to play it and keep it and if it truly is a player's horn.
