Hi, I was wondering if anyone with experience who would know what to look for can tell me whether they believe this King Zephyr alto from 1948 is re-lacquered or not. The seller claims it is not. Opinions on the saxophone's worth are also appreciated.

Looks original to me as my 1938 Z Special has the same color. Nice horn there with the original case but I think unless the pads are new, about a $900 horn as it is not the top model of the time.

The photos have a general "refinished" look to me; it would be unusual for a horn that old not to have more lacquer wear; but it's really hard to tell. Like Bruce I'd call it a $1000 horn max, certainly not $1800.
