I've always wanted to try a Grafton. On the other hand, the wooden alto is just insane. In all practicality, I feel the key action-- levers, rods-- would be stiff and uncomfortable... don't even get started on regulation...

Brass, bronze, copper, silver, gold, acrylic, polycarbonate, wood. Why not stainless steel? No lacquer problems, no corrosion, no tarnishing.

But, hey, that Grafton acrylic sounded pretty good!

Stainless steel is a more of a PITA to work - forming the body and keys, and brazing it together, filing and buffing, etc would all be a lot harder than it is with a ductile material like brass or silver.

I think some have occasionally used stainless steel rods instead of the usual carbon steel rods. There's a thread here where the durability versus difficulty factor is discussed back and forth.
