I recently saw a nino (Orsi) being flogged as good for circus clowns and as a novelty. That really rankled as I consider it much more than that. Yes, it takes time to tame it (as do all saxes). If you can't hear the note you're trying to play it's unlikely to be in tune...same is true for all saxes, but to a lesser degree as you go towards the bigger beasts.

Thought I'd share with you a couple tracks with the Nino in a very mellow mood. To me the timbre of a nino can be superior to a soprano. It can sing without a nasal tone or those awful timbre changes a soprano has between registers.

I like exactly those qualities on soprano you mention - but I hear and know what you mean.
