Are you wanting to play songs on bass yourself? There are many old standards that fit bass nicely that I have used that the audience seems to enjoy that can be played to capture the wonderful timbre of the bass sax. Songs like Old Man River, How Deep is the Ocean, River Keep Away from My Door, Darkdown Strutters Ball, Battle of Jerico (old spirtual), Down in the Deep Cellar, Mississippi Mud, and many other period and later songs. Youtube has a lot dixie using bass which always sound great - especially as played by Bert Brandsma. Check him out for sure. Also listen to Rollini's recording "The Man from the South" with Joe Venuti. He really sounds great on this one! Also check out the Kitkat Rascals http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=36583

I used to think that bass sax was either some kind of joke or medieval torture instrument until I encountered Deep Shrott on Youtube. Then I couldn't get it out of my head every since, seriously! It's not a solo per se but check it out anyway -
In a moment of madness, I even considered briefly the possibility of procuring four bass saxes to start up something similar here, but then sanity returned
I especially dig the guy holding down the bass line, think he's ding a stellar job!
