Hi all,

Now that things are opening back up, where are folks going to hear and perform jazz in NYC? Now that Smalls realized they can charge $50 a set I don’t see them going back to a $10/$20 door cover… I believe Fat Cat is closed now and the Standard doesn’t have anything on the books yet.

My wife and I happily paid that higher Smalls charge when we went a couple nights back in May, but it was our first live music in a long time and only 15-20 people were allowed in per set. Maybe Smalls can continue charging that while packing in more people even as other options re-open, but I'm thinking it won't. On the other hand, will it turn out that they can bring in more revenue with 30 people paying $50 per set instead of 70 paying $20 for multiple sets? We're all participants in a lot of different economic and social experiments these days ... this one just happens to have better background music.

We went last week, they've lifted capacity and the price remains the same. I agree though, after the hit to the economy I'm happy to pay more to get them back on their feet.
