Hi all,

For my graduate studies, I am researching Tenor Saxophone repertoire. Eventually, I am hoping to compile a huge list of works for the instrument. I would like it to extend a bit beyond the standard tenor repoertoire, so I turn to you to ask if anyone has any information regarding new/recent works for the tenor saxophone. I am looking to include many different kinds of works - sonatas, suites, concerti, chamber and electronic pieces, etc. The works can be published, or unpublished. I am very interested in tenor saxophone literature, and I'm curious about what's out there.

Thank you, I appreciate your help!

Contact James Houlik. http://www.jameshoulik.com. Most of the worthwhile American tenor repertoire has been written for him. Let me know if you have difficulty getting in touch with him -- he's a busy man.

Tenor saxophonist Stephen Pollock has also had some nice pieces written for him. http://www.stephen-pollock.com.

Arno Bornkamp and his students have had significant tenor pieces written for them. http://www.arnobornkamp.nl.

John Moore is a wonderful tenor player who has also enjoyed his share of dedications/commissions for tenor. You can contact him through the University of Louisville website http://www.louisville.edu.

Buy the Londeix book! He has done a lot of work for you already!

Take a close look at "Fingers" by Geert van Keulen. It was written for Arno Bornkamp and exists in a concerto version and a version for Tenor and Piano. It is no longer "new" having been written ca. 1991, but IMHO it is one of the better works for Tenor that has come along in the past 20 years or so.

For a list of tenor sax works by Australian composers there are two places to check. The Australian Music Centre has a quite substantial list, check it at www.amcoz.com.au Also check the www.reedmusic.com website. I just discovered a superb work by a young Australian composer by the name of Kate Moore (who is currently residing in the Netherlands), its for 4 tenor saxophones and grand piano and is awesome! It was written for the Python Sax quartet from Den Hague (check these guys out). I'm buying the music tomorrow.

Thank you for your generous responses so far! I will most definitely check out the sources you have suggested. My goal is to find compositions that are lesser known - specific to the tenor saxophone, not necessarily listed in the Londeix (although I will of course use it as a starting point) I should have made that a bit more clear. At any rate, thanks again!
