new mouthpiece

Any ideas on a new mouthpiece. I have a beechler bellite, but its just a little bright. I have a Meyer Limited 6m but its just a little boring. I've been playing for years and I've heard of all sorts of mouthpieces, but im just looking for something that gives the right edge and power, but not to harsh sounding. Any ideas out there fellow sax players.

Sounds like you're Goldilocks looking for the porridge that's just right.

You've found the too bright and too 'boring'. Sounds like you need a medium baffle piece. Where you go from here depends on how much $$ you want to spend.

eeh yeah looking for the perfect porridge lol. I guess I'm looking towrds maybe $350 and down.

maybe a beechler diamond inlay if your all ready playing the beechler brand . these are pretty bright (small bore ones ) and will PROJECT! not quite as bright as the metal though ..I like them . they are pretty exciting pieces. just an idea

I think you would be able to find a Lamberson DD in that price range. Tim Price seems to think that they're the bees knees.

Darn, forgot to ask: alto or tenor?

I'm assuming it's for alto. I'd say send it to a refacer and tell him what u want from the reface. I got mine from John Reilly in the Orange county, CA area. My jazz teacher Eric Marienthal and other pros from the LA area get theirs done there, by the way, Marienthal plays a refaced customized beechler from John. Overall it'll cost about i'd say 50 for reface and 60 for customization? so 100 dollars you won't need another mouthpiece!

oh yeah its an alto. marienthal :|..omg..that dudes my idol! I know he plays on a beechler bellite and 2 1/2 vandoren reeds (blue box). Refacer is a thought.

I knew Marienthal couldn't have been playing on a stock beechler!
Reilly's the real deal.
I play in a little big band where both the tenor player's piece (modified meyer) and bari player's piece (modified berg) were done by John Reilly. It really changed their sounds for the better. Maybe I should send mine to him too

Reilly's great, but you can also try Ralph Morgan. these two are the only two that i've tried and both of them are fantastic. to me Morgan gives you more of the sweet sound of the 40's and Reilly can do almost anything you ask for!

I would also recommend MojoBari for a tweaking, or purchase a Morgan Excalibur EL - really nice piece -complex sound and value for the money IMO.

morgan excalibur...I've heard good things about that piece. Anybody else with ideas.

Another plug for an Excalibur. A 6E or 7E will give you a good balance of depth and brightness.

Really, just get a Seomer Super Session. Not expensive and even if it is not "perfect", you will end up using it someday.

The more advice you ask for, IMO, the more you'll get and the more confused!

The 're-facing by Reilly' idea sounds really good advice, from people with experience(first & and second-hand!).
Why look further?

(Or are you just intent on spending lots of $$ ?
