Two new pieces actually.

Here's the story. I had a 5 string bass I decided to sell. I ended up taking a trade offer for an Ibanez hollowbody that was worth a bit more. Then I traded that for a USA made Ovation that was worth maybe slightly more. I liked the Ovation but didn't need it and couldn't justify keeping it. A guy offered me a trade for a couple guitars I didn't really want in trade for it, but I looked at his other ads and he had some sax gear including a Lebayle mouthpiece. I ended up trading the guitar for the Lebayle and a metal Vandoren T55 with ligature. Was probably about the same value as my guitar.

I'm liking the Lebayle piece. It is an LRII 7. It is a bit brighter than my link but still nice and thick sounding. It goes pretty loud. I'll have to learn to control this beast.

I'm not a fan of the vandoren so far. A bit bright for my tastes. The optimum ligature is nice to work with though.

My (possibly now previous) piece is a 90s link that was also acquired by accident. A customer of mine gave it to me when I fixed a home audio tube amp for him. I'll always keep this as a backup. It is one of those things that I couldn't get enough for to make it worth selling. And maybe I'll decide I like it better again at some point.

Yes, "I'm Done" is the most famous last words expression on SOTW. One must always be vigilant because GAS can strike at any moment, usually wen you least expect it too. Please don't ask me how I know, it's a sad story.

At least I didn't spend any cash! And I parted with something I didn't need. Gear goes out, gear comes in.

The thing is, you don't grow out of it either. I'll be 75 this spring and I'm still buying stuff. Every time you say 'I'm set now, no more stuff', you might as well reach for your wallet because a major purchase is only days away. The quest never ends - and maybe that's a good thing.

This piece seems to be along the lines of Brecker and Junior Walker.

I'll try to record some clips soon.

I've tried the lig that came with it, and my Rovner Evo. I'm not one to obsess over ligatures but I find the rovner tames it just a bit.

I try not to buy **** that I don't need, but my imaginary friend always talks me into spending money. It's interesting that I never spend money to try different mouthpieces.
I need to get off my lazy butt and create a sales add for two like new mouthpieces that I've had since about 2007 (played about 10 minutes each).
Gool luck on your new MP's!!

Well, at 76 this past December I'm just like you. I told myself I was through buying gear but since I just got back into playing after my post bypass letdown layoff I got so enthused playing all my gear, SAT saxes and all the many mpcs I have acquired for each, that I got the fever without realizing it. I was busy looking for the Bass Clarinet that I went ahead and bought and while on Ebay couldn't help but notice a sop and Alto mpc that seemed great deals and very much needed. So almost like in a drug induced trance I pulled the trigger and before you knew it I had just bought them. Now I'm busy trying to explain to myself why I do not need another tenor mpc just because I have two up for sale and the 13 remaining are all very good players. But you know....it is so hard not to look at those ads and think "hmmm, I wonder how that would play on my Martin. I've always heard those are great......and the price is really good.....maybe I could win it.....wait.....NO NO NO, you have no money left this month Idiot!!! STop this right now!!!" etc.

Or just keep trading one piece of gear for another until you've tried everything for one initial investment.
That's pretty much what I did some years ago when I was on the mouthpiece merry-go-round. I had valuable vintage mouthpieces that I didn't use, as well as a bunch of new Ponzols I picked up for peanuts at a music store going out of business, that funded my trials and tribulations for some time. I'd search the marketplace for trades, and took my time finding what was right. In the end, after matching each of my horns to now longstanding preferred mouthpieces, I probably didn't lose much at all. Plus I traded away or sold all that I had no use for. Heck, I might have came out ahead.

I'm definitely ahead in this trading chain. I started with a bass I was asking 600CND for. It was a quality yamaha bass but I had to clean up a messy pickup change. I probably would have done well to get my price. The Lebayle piece alone is probably worth most of what the bass was worth. Plus I have the vandoren.
