Well, since it says " Google Custom Search" I expect this to work lik the other one (which was the only Google custom search for a very long toime) they give identical results.

The box on the right hand side (still there) called Advanced Search was not very good after all.

It's not new. Only, it used to be suppressed by AdBlock, uBlock and similar tools.. Maybe that changed, or you updated your system in a way that the Safari Extensions have been changed or de-activated.

It's possible, but then what was the whole problem about the Search engine not working? This, like the other one, is an outstanding feature.

It works very well with me (as usual, this is incredible!) Ad Block doesn't block this (while does all the rest).

I don’t see anything different. I’ve been using that for a long time along with that style page. Although someone fixed the timestamp this week. The timestamp and the time on my monitor now match. Well they’re only :04 off. Not 3 hours like it had been since the last daylight savings time change in October.

Its too bad that the search button is now all but useless. Hundreds or thousands of posts are impossible to find.

I look for recent searches that I know has certain words in the title and I get pages of random results that have nothing to do with my search.

I have to go to google as a search method for old threads. Its been bad and its getting worse. It makes it pretty useless to post useful information because it goes on the forum and falls into a hole.

...so dont get annoyed and tell people to use the search button because its basically useless.

Don't know how milandro does it? Always great returns on his searches. My luck seems similar to your comment.

I actually remember using one of these.
Well into the first decade of this century ( 21st) the Royal library of De Hague still used them.

That has been there for years. Nothing new.

I don't understand why go to https://www.saxontheweb.net just to do a Google search
well, it was just visible for me ( and now, again, no longer is)

I have always gone through that page for years and years and searched there

Its too bad that the search button is now all but useless. !!
I disagree, the above indicated Google Custom Search works perfectly. Otherwise do as Pete suggests

I will keep on using this as I have done (kept and keep doing) for many many years

I go to google to find old threads but something is seriously wrong with the regular search. I dont use it everyday so maybe sometimes it works but when I tried to use it the thing gave me a spread of threads that were unrelated. Also a lot of older material that can still be found with google and are not on old archives are not caught by the search button. Agree, or disagree...its screwed up and it used to work great.

please try what I suggested above.

As you say (thanks :bluewink: ) I've proven many times that I can search and search well using that method. Should you want to search anything I am prepared to offer you my assitence as I have have done several times to many other grateful members, but I am not a superman, I simply use that function in that place.

Incidentally, this is no longer visible to me

so I keep using only this

Ok...so I can find it in the left hand corner.

example...I dont need the thread but "Phil-tone and Theo Wanne Mosaic"

I can use google to find it within SOTW but the standard or advanced search does not find but 3 threads and there are many...including my original thread.
Google finds it but the forum search button does not....even on advanced search.

...So what happened to the internal search engine. I know I can find things in a pinch...even Steve Neff's huge thread on reviews was lost a while back.

The standard search is not reaching back very far in time at all. It was fast and effective in the past. It would be nice if it was repaired.

There are many ways to get to items but I guess I prefer the good ole standard search on the rt of the screen. It used to work perfectly...now it finds very little.

The search on the right won't work. It hasn't for several years

Please read the suggested procedure above.

I am going to have a shot at this (there are more I have 90 hits)

I guess it had been working for me for a while and I use it regularly.

...I suppose a workaround is better than nothing.

If they cant fix it they should remove it and suggest at the top that your method be used.

Without a workaround information is not very accessible and everyone wont read this post.

thanks

Actually I have been explaining this for several years in several threads. I don't take any particular pleasure in doing this but I have been trying to offer the membership my experience. I nver just say " use the search engine" but I actually do the search that people haven't been able to do and tell them how I did it.
Anyway, in of of those past threads we discussed this at length and that made Pete Thomas try to find a workaround, see this thread (found with the search worck around that I have always used)

https://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?343314-quot-New-Posts-quot-search-not-working/page2

OK, doing some testing - you should see an unsightly yellow box at the top of this forum, I have added a couple of links that may be helpful. One is the link I've been using for my browser bookmark, the other should be the same as the current New Posts. Until I am allowed to edit the navigation bar, this might work. (Not sure if I am actually allowed to put that notice there, so it may just be temporary)

Yes I am most grateful for the things you have search for me. Subjects that I had no success searching, thanks again! Also yes, you have kindly and repeatedly shown members how to use the search engine. The only thing I figure is you use or have figured out how to use better keywords. Next time all I ask for suggestions on keywords....like what did you use to get the results in post 16 ?
I still see the upper left google custom search. Look at the time and date stamp from the screenshot. Interesting. Oddly I get some success from the search tool with other members saying they don't. Just to be clear I am describing success as I get one or two hits, three on a good day. This while in category not thread mode as Pictured. Both search tools are Less than an imppressive. There's got to be a gold mine of information here that is in unobtainumn files. You may not be superman but you are definitely a lucky man!

Believe me I don’t do anything special. :)

I have looked for the links in post #16 to " Phil-tone Theo Wanne Mosaic “

Which returned the results that were specific to those words.

I have been entrusted with searching on search engines (among other things) in a previous professional life, but it is just thinking of which words would be as unique as possible to a particular search.

Now if you are looking about some things with a-specific terms THEN you won’t find anything. By the way if you are looking for something that you wrote include your monicker (but even then this is not always easy) there is a thread where I complain about people whom use a saxophone stand as a cradle , well, there is no way, for me, to find it with a search. I have to go back in my post history if I want to add to that!

The probable reason why I don’t see that box on the top left must have to do with an ad-block:bluewink:
