I think this album has been out about a year but I'm finally getting a chance to listen to it. It is fantastic! Incredibly sweet rendition of Human Nature and I'm also really digging Old School. Anyone else really enjoying this album?

Thanks for the hint! The whole album is not really my cup of tea (to smooth for my taste) but Nelson is one of the best flute players in the jazz scene for sure.

I was fortunate to see him live in Denver about a decade or so at a New Years celebration. Sax, the flute, and a few tunes where he whistled...amazing talent.

I should clarify my statement first. I'm not implying that Rangell can't play the saxophone. It's his tone and especially that note splitting shrill thing he does up in the altissimo range that causes me to tune him out.

As far as alto players go, I would start with the early years and work up to today's contemporary players. Keep in mind this is a very short list.
