I know that the 100 was marketed as a professional horn and the 200 is an intermediate or step up horn. Does anyone actually know the technical difference? Is it just cosmetic, or are they really different horns? Possibly do they share the same basic construction but with different features. Same goes for the 110/210. I recently test played a 210 and it was quite nice. Have not played the 110 side by side. Looking to buy the 210 in that the 110 is twice the cost. Is it twice the horn? (Can't afford a Selmer Paris)

Thank you for any responses. Please indicate if you are just stating an opinion with your response, or if you are technically knowledgable. Thanks.

I don't have all of the information in hand but there are threads here where the various models and their differences are discussed quite thoroughly. I, personally, have a Model 162 which was the original "professional" version of the AS100 (ser.# 820xxx). The AS100 had a couple of cosmetic changes (the high F# key is now pearled rather than the plain "MkVI" styled bar) and the color changed from a Rose Gold laquer to a lighter Gold laquer. These models were individually hand soldered in the same manner as the Selmer Paris models. Later serial numbered models were done by automated assembly and there were "issues" with quality. Generally, the later the serial number, the less the quality control. To my knowledge, the only model that was marketed as a "professional" model was the 162! The AS100 (while being virtually identical) was marketed as an "intermediate" model. (Hey, a difference that makes no difference is no difference!) As to the difference between the AS 100/200? I would suggest looking at a Selmer USA brochure from 1983-1984 as it should give you the specs of each sax. I have the 1982 promo folder and it compares the Selmer USA Model 162 and 164 (tenor) to the Selmer Paris models in a feature by feature comparison. I hope that helps.
