Hi,

I recently got a used Zagar V-Series mpc #6 for tenor from my teacher. It seems to be an extremely free-blowing and great sounding tenor piece I have ever tried. Maybe too free-blowing and it does not work for me, because I prefer the hard rubber setup on both my alto and tenor. I currently play Mouthpiececafé N.Y. Café on alto and Bergonzi Slant on tenor, they give me the right amount of resistance that I need to shape the sound and add a beautiful singing character to the sound (I am not affiliated with the Mouthpiececafé in any way, BTW, just my personal observations).

My question would be -what is the fair value of this piece if I try to sell it? It is in great condition with some scuffs on the top because of the soft ligature screw, but the table and the rails are perfect.

I remember when the Hot/Cool School line first came out. I think they were nearly three hundred bucks. When they dropped to under a hundred, I took a chance on one. I think I was lucky to unload it for fifty bucks. When they came out with their newer line, I believe they then began referring to the previous line as student pieces. I'm sure that made the folks that shelled out nearly three bills for them very happy.

I guess you'll have to bite the bullet and see what Ebay brings. From past experience... I'd hazard to guess not much.

Thanks for sharing some info. I won't really cry if it does not sell at all and would just keep it to myself then. It is pretty-well made for a student piece actually and the metal is unusually light like magnesium or other similar type, I don't know.

You might want to try offering it up for trade here in the Marketplace and see what offers it brings.

I personally like these a lot but they do not bring much on ebay. Maybe 75-100$ is what they can realistically bring.
Question: if you want more resistance why don't you try it with harder reeds? I also tend to use harder reeds than my other pieces in the same opening and I also enjoy the sound better with a harder reed.
I have a piece like yours and use a Rico jazz Select 3s.
