Is anyone else finding MySpace more and more difficult to use? I had set up a page with bio, mp3s, pics and videos and gig schedule for potential employers and interested friends to check out my playing or see when and where my gigs are.

With each successive update I'm finding it more and more difficult to maintain, and from the outside it seems to be more difficult to find things.

anybody share this opinion, or is it just me?

I've recently endeavoured into Google+. You might give it a shot. I'm not sure what the musical capabilities are quite yet.

[Edit: There seems to be a music program they're working on. It's still in Beta but I've just requested an invitation.]

Myspace used to be far more valuable to creative types than Facebook in my opinion. Now that it has been redesigned (notice I didn't say "improved), it is slow and cumbersome to navigate and customize.

To be quite honest, I find both social networking sites to be largely a waste of time in the grand scheme of things. I check on my accounts with both one or two times a week at the most.

I've never bothered to "build" my website beyond what it is because I have very little reason or desire to promote myself. I've been paying for my own web space for years however because the unlimited storage and bandwidth alone are well worth the small amount I have to pay on a yearly basis. If someone is truly trying to promote themselves, I have no idea why looking for a "free" place to do so has remained so important. The cost of owning your own website these days is miniscule in comparison to the benefits. Throw in a little third-party advertising and it can even produce a profit in addition to whatever profit you may make from promoting yourself. Why let MySpace or any other "free" website keep the advertising credits when you can keep them for yourself? I will personally never allow any advertising on my website, but that's because I hate having advertisements forced on me everywhere I go, and I don't need the money bad enough to force advertising on anyone else.
