It's as the title says. I'm committed to not buying one single mouthpiece during 2012. I had more than 30 tenor mouthpieces (spent fortunes) and now I'm down to only 7 so I've made a lot of progress already.
My goal is to chose one as my main piece and to play it exclusively for at least 6 months. It was difficult to see some of my pieces go but now I'm relieved because I can focus on developing my tone rather than find solutions for my difficulties in gear changes. I feel like I'm entering a new stage of development, could it be that I'm finally maturing as a saxophonist? Have a great 2012!

Im in too.thats my goal no new mouthpieces for 2012.Ive had tons of tenor and altos pieces over the years and have a few for each horn that play great so enough is enough. Ive been selling of most of my collection and its time to just shed out on one mouthpiece and just practice hard! Its good to know that Im not alone in my "mouthpiece Illness" We should sponsor each other!like my son said years ago when he was 7 years old and sitting patiently at the music store while I went through lots of mouthpiece testing"Dad ..its the player not the mouthpiece"

best way to make this resolution a reality is to go all 365 days without going to the SOTW "Mouthpieces for Sale" subforum. Think you can do that?

Don't know. Maybe I am wrong. Back in the 70s, my Dad swore that the only way he could give up cigarettes was to have one pack by his bedside and one in the glove compartment of his car, so that he had to constantly override the urge to smoke, rather than have the urge pop up at a bar or party. So if you're like him, maybe you need to tune in to "Mouthpieces for Sale" every day to reaffirm your strength.

It's actually probably not even that different from smoking. Aren't we always just one 'magic' mouthpiece away from not needing another? (Forgetting that magic is relative and that we probably already own the mouthpiece.)

Anyhow, maybe one that's on the way will really be the magic piece. Let's hope!

Cheers to all,
Ed

But what about your alto and soprano setups???

Sorry couldn't resist! :bluewink:
I knew I had a problem when I found mouthpieces I had forgotten about!

Good Luck!!!

Sounds good - it will allow you to focus on finding the perfect horns.

I haven't bought a single soprano mc for more than a year. And this year, as far as I remember, I only bought one for alto. So I'm pretty much settled on alto and soprano.

I have wasted enough money on the mouthpiece/reed merry-go-round over the past 18 months.

I have my "perfect" tenor sax, my 2 mouthpieces ( one for classical and one for everything else ) and reeds ( Legere ). I am now just concentrating on learning to play them better.
We're exactly on the same path. With a great Mark VI tenor and an excellent Freddie Gregory mouthpiece (well, maybe a great TK Focustone also), why would I want to play anything else?

That's too bad..........I have a mint condition Freddie Gregory Mark II 8 that is an absolute monster player. Best mouthpiece I ever played............I'd be willing to let it go for 200.00. Oh well, stay strong on your new resolution. (This is a test)

On second thought ... we're still in 2011 so ... how much did you say you wanted for it?
