Just me my studio and my new Vito Model 37 alto with a Meyer 5 that I never even tried at Saxquest.

Just in time for Christmas.

If I had to do it all over I'd be a hand drummer and move to Brazil.

Hard to believe you are the same player doing a James Taylor cover as the guy who does all the sound explorations. Nice playing on the James Taylor track, but it doesn't move me the way your other work does. Circle and Caxaxi are much more to my liking.

Thanks Wade I had a blast doing it. I love his writing and Paul Simon and I love Hal Ketchum... The alto just sort of came out of the box like that. I hadn't touched one in 18 years. Do you guys have a Thanksgiving kind of deal. Regardless Happy Thanksgiving Wade. I would love to make the trip someday. I hear the flyfishing is worldclass. Peace.

Nope. No thanksgiving here. If we did it would be a BBQ affair for sure. Also opposite season. We are in spring. Thanksgiving is about celebrating harvest (among other things).

Yes the fresh water fishing is supposedly some of the best in the world. Trout and Bass don't come from here, so when they brought them in there were none of the usual parasites that keep them from getting as big in their native habitat. No such thing as a pan fryer here. Would take a very big pan as the minimum legal fish is (approximately) 1 kg or just over two pounds. They obviously get much much bigger. There is a tourist park in Rotorua where they feed some of them that swim from the local lake and stream into viewing pools. The average size is around 12 pounds, some bigger. Breaks me up to see anglers from other parts of the world who look into this pool that's not much bigger than an average back yard swimming pool and must have at least three hundred of those big buggers in it. They look, stare, and often a little tear comes to their eye. Each of these would be the catch of a lifetime where they come from. It's illegal to use worms or anything other than lures (too easy). Trolling and fly fishing are the norm. Most of the rivers and lakes are well stocked so it's not too difficult. Once caught, common practice is to smoke them so that they last (remember one barely legal fish can feed several hungry people). There are also salmon that come into the south island rivers. Ocean fishing is not bad either. If you can make it, let me know well ahead of time as I’m out of the country a lot.

I love eating fish, so when I go fishing it's to catch fish to eat. I don't catch more than I'm going to eat. I understand the art behind fly fishing, but have never done this. Probably has a lot to do with being poor when at University. I caught fish to have something to eat. Fishing was about food, surfing was my sport/play.

I don't have a site and just post stuff here and there on SOTW. Can be found in this section as well as sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, and improvisation sections. Once you find my stuff in soundcloud or one of the others you can then go through as much (or little) as you want.

I'm self employed and work in Forestry Research in New Zealand and Australia and live in both countries. Music happens wherever and whenever possible. I play in a trio in New Zealand and we do some gigs. Most recordings are with either the trio or just with the guitarist. I've played at a couple festivals in Australia as a sit in with groups there. Other details can be found in my profile.

Cheers

I like Tired Magpies the way the lines are kind of doing opposing jagged smooth kind of things. Its interesting to kind of play in and out of that. Are you playing guitar as well? Kindred Spirits

You are the first person to say they liked that piece. I like it a lot as it plays with the idea of being polyrhythmic without really being polyrhythmic. It's more like flexi-time that goes out of rhythm and then syncs back up. There is some sort of twisted logic to it, but I don't think I can explain it, it's more felt than intellectualized.

Nope, I don't play guitar. That's Gerhard Lotermoser. We work up these things together by his coming up with a simple vamp/mode and looping it. We then both play against/off it. It's all improvised but not musically very challenging as neither of us are that accomplished. At best we establish a feeling or mood and even occasionally come up with an OK melody, but nothing that's ground-breaking. I'm trying to get set up with a keyboard that will allow me to devise some pieces of my own. Kind of scary as I might not have anything worthwhile to say and only work well with other musicians. Time will tell.

Finally got to check your samples out...

I like JT quite a bit... Really enjoyed your take on Country Roads and how you essentially kept true to the original version. Nice bit with the percussion at the end, could imagine you taking it "out" in a live setting. I'd like to have heard the natural sound... not sure if it's the effects processing, but did seem real bright to my ears compared to the other recordings.

Mahna De Carnival was nicely played, nice mood and pacing (would like to have heard all of that)... very nice phrasing and improv during the bit of Autumn Leaves.

Desert Flower...lovely tenor sound very interesting piece. Reminded me a bit of Baptismal Font (?) or one of those pieces from Lieb's Elements - Water ....
