Actually new-to-me, a 1931 Buescher alto. Bought from a another Canadian member. It arrived today and I could not be happier! It plays beautifully. What struck me was the ease of playing, compared to my YAS21, (which I also bought from a Canadian member). The Buescher has a nicer sound, quite warm. Both of these purchases were sight unseen, ('cept for pics), ie. not tested before purchase. The 21 played right from the get go, too. (one year ago. I don't think it's got too many issues but the B. is seemingly effortless. It's a great feeling to be able to trust another member's description. I feel Lucky!

Buescher did have a Canadian licensee, Whaley Royce & Co. in Toronto. I've seen saxes stamped or engraved with their mark right over the Buescher trade name.

Sweeet! Looks to be in excellent shape. Snazzy case, too. Congrats!

And thanks for the info on Whaley Royce, paulwl. Never seen one in the wild myself, but I'll keep an eye peeled.

The pronunciation changed - officially.
Up to the 1950s the ads read "Say Bisher."
After that, "Say Busher."

Is there a number on the neck above the tenon? Looks like that horn might have had its plating buffed off. Is there anything legible on the bell?
Sorry for the delay. I can see two "X"s on the ring around the neck. The bell has "The Buescher Elhart Ind. USA" plus a floral design.

Yeah, they should almost look like incomplete asterisks. You don't see the "two star" necks too often. With the "1" necks, TT's can play sharp above high A. With the two stars? Well, you really don't hear much about them; and I've only seen one in my hands over the years.

That is a great review Matt did of this Model Buescher;
I bought one for $250 , they are common and you see them around often enough.
I put a complete KB Sax overhaul on it , $850 at the time and I must say , worth it . The sound on that horn is True Tone
on every note; That said, I eventually moved on to the Big B, slightly better ergos and brighter sound.
Try a Metalite mouthpiece on it and see what you think.
