The hopeless ones get tossed without wasting Sharpie on them. Others get a straight line as a smile or a partial smile.

And when a reed gets broken in -- or deteriorates with use -- does its facial expression change?

Maybe it should get a tear - crying that it was once a great reed, but is no more.

Perhaps we should develop a Canonical List of Reed Markings, although I'm sure someone in Germany probably did that in 1920.
