Nice sound, pretty even accross the registers. Edgy but not overly bright.

The improv is quite good indeed. Maybe a little more space early on might have helped the phrasing and pacing. Leaves a little more room to build excitement. Very minor points (no pun intended lol). Reminded me of Ernie Watts at times...played with a lot of confidence and good sound and expressiveness.

So, are you a high school student? Studying privately, I take it? Whatever your doing, keep it up!!!

I fully agree, very nice sound and very even. (I was listening for that.) Of the pieces you included, the one I least appreciated was the ballad - somehow the sound didn't seem to fit the mood. (then again, maybe I just need to be in the right mood)

Whatever you're doing, keep it up!!!
+1 !!

I am impressed by your audition effort. I didn't see Ronaldo's comments until while listening to the improv work. I, too, was thinking during the ballad etude that your tone color was inappropriate and that there was perhaps too much of a forward urge. Maybe ballads aren't your thing? Regardless, high marks for technique and forward drive on the uptempo tunes. I'd like to hear you develop more of a tone palette and manipulate your sound a bit more.

G'luck with the audition outcomes!

Thanks for sharing.

I see what you guys are saying, I could have been a little bit more gentle in my approach to the ballad.
As far as my tone, I was trying to keep it as straight-forward as possible, when I've heard the people that make the ensembles, that's usually how they play.

Interesting side note:
The director of the All-State jazz ensemble this year is Steve Wiest, the current director of the University of North Texas One o Clock Lab band. That school is also my top choice, so being in this band would be a great experience.

Sweet playing man. Remember the most important things besides skill on the sax to a successful career. The 4 P's.

Prompt
Polite
Prepared
Professional

Those are things that a bandleader looks for in a musician.

Chops are great but you gotta get along.

Love your sound, you can go all the way if you work hard and stay humble.

Good Luck.
