my friend just went from braces to no braces and she said that it's difficult for a couple days but then she sounded as good as before. So it shouldn't be TOO big a change, any change you make will probably be adjusted subconsciously.

Believe it or not, braces might be the best thing to happen to your playing yet. It will be difficult getting used to playing with them. Some dental wax is a good place to start. You will learn how to use the muscles in your face instead of just your jaw muscles. Consider this a learning opportunity.

while were on the subject, I might as well ask this...

In a few years I'm going to get surgery on my jaw to make my teeth meet properly (my lower jaw is far too big).
Obviously it will take a while to be able to get good tone again, but has anyone had any experience with this?

I currently have braces. When I got mine I was primarily playing bari, I couldn't play for a few days, then everything was back to normal, my biting problem went away too. :D
