Music Theory texts

My wife and I have been studying music theory using a text recommended by my wife's piano teacher, called "Elementary Rudiments of Music" by Barbara Wharram and edited by Kathleen Wood. Published by Frederick Harris Music.

The problem we are having is that this book is in the style of a workbook. Many times we are in need of a reference text for more info on a specific subject. Can you suggest a text that might be usefull to us?

Thanks.

Check out the Music Theory for Dummies book, it' s got a lot in it and comes with a CD of examples...
Harmony by Walter Piston

or

Harmony and Voice Leading by Aldwell/Schachter
Thanks for the suggestions.
