Hello, I would like to ask about the Lebayle Jazz HR mouthpiece for the soprano saxophone. Does anyone play this mouthpiece, what is the impression of how to play it? Is it comparable to Selmer Super Session H or Bari 66, Gottsu Sepia Tone? I will be grateful for your opinions. I'm looking for a good soprano mouthpiece for jazz and light music, Regards, Kris.
I had a lebayle Jazz model rubber soprano mouthpiece and it played extremely bright compared to both the Super Session and Bari 66 mouthpieces I also had at the time. For my purposes I found it much too bright, but you may like that, I didn’t.
The Bari is a great mouthpiece within that general design (i.e., squeezed-throat), and probably the best bang-for-the-buck among soprano mouthpieces. Another really good and inexpensive option in that vein is the Morgan Vintage soprano mouthpiece.
I played each for many years (and still own both) and I never found them to sound terribly bright.
I had both and lost them. That's about when I joined but somebody steered me to get the Barone NY. In retrospect, I should have just replaced them then. Money was tight when I started soprano so that's all I could afford then. I would still probably have it today.
