Thx for the kind comments! There’s maybe a bit too much reverb on that clip to get a full idea of the tone of the mpc, but it’s working well for me! This is on my Mark vi with a vi neck that has been altered at the cork end (diameter opened up quite a bit) so it plays much wider than a typical vi neck does. It’s been kind of a challenge finding a mpc that is darker and full but focuses the sound enough, and the Avante Garde does it really well. Anything with less baffle like a traditional rollover style for me hasn’t worked as well.

Ving, I think that sounds great! What reed were you using?

Do you have any experience with the Morgan Indiana model? I'm curious about how the two compare. It seems like they are based on the same concept, so I wonder what the difference is, if any.

Thx! Yes, I tried an Indiana model a while back and if memory serves, I find the Avante-Garde more free blowing. I like it a lot, it’s very flexible but doesn’t get overly bright. I was using a pretty crappy lavoz med that was just lying out on my desk that I grabbed!

Hi folks,
Made another short clip with the Morgan, pardon my amateur videography haha. Noodling around in a free-ish sense on this clip, not sure what the intent was but pretty accurate to my mood lately...

Thanks Steve! The backing tracks are just little sketches of ideas I played in Logic. I really like the design of the Avante-Garde 2. It’s got the right amount of baffle in the right place for me, the mpc feels freeblowing but still has a nice core to it, something I’ve found harder to find. I’ve also tried the TLS-1 lower baffle model and that’s also nice but I prefer the 2. I don’t really feel like the 2 baffle is brighter, in fact it’s more free blowing for me so I feel I can voice it darker if that makes sense. Anyhow, I’ve been using the .105 since August and really enjoying it. Just ordered a .100 in the 2 chamber as well to try, playing softly at home all the time I feel like the .105 can feel like more work than needed when I’m playing soft so curious to investigate the smaller tip. But I think Erik G designed a really great mpc! ( The smaller blank fits an alto lig but I don’t find it to feel as small as the Excalibur model. And I think the Avante Garde has its own voice distinct from the Excalibur models, and I prefer the TLS-2 to the other Morgan’s I’ve had in the past)

Ving, don't you normally play facings in the .115 range?
Hi,

I used to play more open facings! I still have a couple of more open RPCs (.115b) that I use for loud wedding/ club type gigs but I think the last gig like that for me was nov 2019. I have played more moderate baffle pieces in the .105 range also though, so the Avante garde in these openings feel very comfortable. Even though it's been driven by practicing at home in my isolation booth and not wanting to annoy everyone in my house, I'm not sure I'd want to go back to a larger opening anyhow,
