Can I be one of your kids:)
That was a very polite request and I appreciate that in a child.

Thank you, no.

Two children is quite enough. I am trying to downsize as it is and adding another child with requisite needs is not indicated.

@Dr. G.

I know my son wants a Mark VI. I also know he's not getting one. :)
My parents couldn't afford to buy me one, so I worked 3 jobs one summer and bought an excellent SBA.

I am always surprised of he fact that some person comes to SOTW with a precise question and receives unrequested advise to buy a horn that he was not interested to buy or has requested any opinion about, very peculiar!
In this case, I would say it is warranted. The OP indicated some reservations about his family spending that kind of money and he was provided some very good budget friendly alternatives.

P.S. Back to the OP's comment about vintage horns not coming down in value. The market and pricing is not as strong as it was say 5 years ago. Depending on where the world wide economy goes the next few years, vintage horns could again drop in value as people need to off load them to pay bills.

I've played a few 82Z's and compared them to some selmers, and have to say that even though both saxes are great, I do find a sort of tonal difference in the selmer saxes. There is a lot to be said about whether all the extra money for a mark VI is worth it for just a difference in resistance and tone, and I definately will be reluctant to buy any sax until I've compared it to a few other options. It's still a while before I have to decide, so maybe Ill have some luck finding some local saxes so that I can play them and really make an educated choice.

Wesley, Mk VI tenors are all over the map regarding tone and projection. Saying you want a Mk VI is like saying you want a Ford - lots of variations within the theme. There are several eras of Mk VI tenors - each with a general vibe.

That said, there is a classic Selmer core. Consider also, depending on your sonic concept, the Serie III and Ref 36. (There are also the Serie II and Ref 54 but, eh, I just don't care for them...)

G'luck with your quest.

My yani 992 t is so amazing my friend wanted to trade me his Mark V1 I kid you not
If we are going down the derail path, I'd be compelled to mention that the person that bought my other Borgani Jubilee sold his Mk VI tenor.

Back to the original program...

Of course nobody has mentioned the venerable MK VII tenor....in many ways better than a VI tenor and financially easier on the wallet.

I understand your point, but did you read the entire OP? Do you really think, based on the information provided, that he really wants/needs a Mark VI and that should be the only option discussed in the thread?

As for where else to look, here is a list of websites that I have compiled over the last few months:

www.stohrermusic.com (SOTW member abadcliche)
www.2ndending.com (SOTW member JayePDX)
www.saxoasis.com (SOTW member les)
www.usahorn.com
www.worldwidesax.com
www.vintagesax.com
www.junkdude.com
www.cybersax.com
www.saxalley.com
www.pmwoodwind.com
www.saxquest.com
www.kesslermusic.com

And expect to pay a premium going through a dealer vs a private sale.
Great post. thanks for all the sites. I bought a really great 105k VI tenor in original (but 30%) lacquer from Dave at junkdude. He has a nice 119 orig. for 5950.

Someday you will all come to realize that the Guardala sounds the most like a MkVI. I just thought you should know
Which stuffy, out-of-regulation Mk VI are you comparing it to?
