I've done a ton of blues stuff now - and I'm starting to feel comfortable - espeically with slow blues.

However, minor stuff seems to elude me and it isn't nearly as easy to find good players blowing over the minor stuff. Does anyone have any good minor blues solos they like? How about any minor blues heads or riffs?

Thanks in advance!

Not exactly a blues, but Midnight Voyage is a another classic.

Both the Oliver Nelson tenor and Dolphy fute solos on Stolen Moments are terrific.

Joe Henderson Out of the Night is another good one...also Grant Green's It Aint Necessarily So is another great medium tempo minor key swing... they stirke a deep blue groove in that one. I love that track!!!

Loan Me A Dime is a classic minor blues progression.

Cannonball's stuff on Big P (by Jimmy Heath) from At The Lighthouse would be good transcription material. Another good one would be Art Pepper on Birk's Works from the Meet's The Rhythm Section record. Hassan's Dream is another good one. I believe it was written by Benny Golson, but I know it from the Lee Morgan Vol. 3 record. Really nice stuff from Lee, Benny, and Gigi Gryce, as well as some guys named Wynton Kelly and Paul Chambers.

Blue Trane (Coltrane)
Blue Train is not a minor blues.

Just to complete my previous post: here is a live version of Timeline, where MB progressively builds from a laid-back pentatonic Turrentineish mood into his typical "out" runs and phrases. BTW, it is interesting to see how he moved his fingers quite a bit, not exactly the academic way.
For some reason, his sound is dark and tubby, maybe a dead microphone ?
Mr. Brecker, do you know how much we miss you ?

Lou Donaldsons "Blues Walk" is pretty easy to transcribe, at least the head, and still fun to play (it's an alto tune, but goes also well on tenor). I think, the solo transcription can be found free on the web somewhere. I can't remember who did it, but he is a member here (Eddie something from Las Vegas?).

Michael Brecker, "Nothing Personal" (actually Metheny's solo is the "bluesier" one, but it's worth transcribing both).

Comin' Home, Baby is a jazz-blues jam standard. There are lots of versions on utube, including one by David Sanborn. Here's a nice bluesy version on tenor.

RyanS, you're getting lots of great answers here, but since you put this under the R&R section, I have to wonder if you're looking for blues by Wayne Shorter/Joe Henderson/Rollins, etc, or the more standard blues of Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, King Curtis, etc. While I see them all as blues, there is a difference and you'll get more useful answers if you specify what you're after. Just a suggestion....

Yeah, thanks guys. A lot of these are good answers, but I'm more interested in something bluesier. Some of these are very much jazz; but all suggestions are welcome. I'm more or less looking for material to play over blues standards like 'The thrill is gone'
