Randall,

I play bari w/ Mingo Fishtrap

Hope you had no problems getting our cd's or dvd. Please feel free to let me and SOTW know what you think after checking them out.

We're currently in the studio working on the next cd. Summer is upon us which will mean touring the states and a trip to Norway in May.

Bill, thanx for pointing Randall in the right direction.

short, INCREDIBLY pleased to meet you!:!:

I have become a bit of a myspace junkie lately and found you guys by accident. I have to say I am totally impressed with what you guys do-makes me want to move to Austin...yesterday!

I just told my wife, if there is music like this in Austin, that is the town for me. :)

I just sent a friend request to your site on myspace. Check out mine-there are pix on my site and I think you will be interested.

BTW, you aren't looking for a tenor player are you?;)

I will be sure to post a review when the discs arrive.

Randall,

Glad you like the band. I was thrilled to be asked to join six years ago. And I'm still having a blast.

The band's tenor player goes by pnutbutta here on SOTW.

Austin is a great music town. I came here to get my masters at UT and never left.

Maybe we'll get to Japan someday!

Fellow SOTW'ers besides being great sax players and nice guys the band Mingo Fishtrap makes some great music....great songs, compositions....very entertaining band. I've got their CD "Yesterdays" and the DVD "Live At The Granada Theater". The CD is one of those that I'll put on and leave on for several listens through. Their music is uplifting, toe-tapping, butt-shakin' and I have nothing but praise for them.

I encourage all of you that dig funky well crafted music to support them and buy their music. Shortwhite and Pnutbutta...my hat is off to you two for going the distance to create original music.

All the best from a true "MF'er" fan, Mark Rybiski

Mark R. and Dr. Sax,

Thanx so much for the compliments, one of the the things that keeps us going.

Mark, I'm sure we'll get to LA at some point this year although nothing is booked right now. I think we'll be putting more effort into playing the southeast part of the country in the near future.

Dr. Sax, we got to Europe earlier this year but didn't get to book anything except Norway this trip. We will probably be going back next year with the intention of trying to book much more throughout Europe. I will certainly keep you informed.

When we played in Bend OR a couple of weeks ago they shot video to promote the venue while we were there. It is now on youtube along with a few other a couple of others. Here is a link for the latest:

Again, thanx a lot guys!

Shortwhite, been meaning to tell you how much I am loving the two discs I got from CD Baby and am looking forward to more. The Private Bag CD is constantly in my deck in the car....keep it coming!

BTW, what kinda bari are you playing?

Thanx alot Randall! Just got home from rehearsal. Working on tunes for the next cd.

The band's 1st cd (Succotash) and a 4 song EP (EP2) are available as digital downloads (iTunes, etc). We just don't have them pressed anymore. We also released a dvd in January that you can get at CD Baby.

I'm playing a great Mark VI bari. This is the same bari that was played for years by Todd Oxford. Check out his solo classical bari cd, Finesse. Same horn.

I am using a Gloger neck, an RPC mouthpiece and plain old Rico reeds.

Thanx for your support and if we make it to Japan I'll buy you a beer.

As if I haven't said it before......

.....Killer band. Great dudes. Great players, all of them, they do what they do better than anyone else I've ever heard live who does what they do.

Friday was a blast, Shortwhite. I wish you guys could have made it to my place for the afterhang. Next time you're in town, it's on, all night, no questions. Denton can still throw a mean party, the new blood's keeping the tradition strong and it's up to Snarky to prove it. :)

Seriously, if you haven't picked up any of Mingo's records, HIT them up, you won't be sorry. Unless you hate booty-shaking funk. If that's the case, I can't help you.

Thanx Brian. It was a fun show last week. Acoustically, Hailey's is a great room for you guys. Everything sounded great.

Everyone should check out Snarky Puppy. Great playing, both individually and as a group. These are guys you should keep your eye on in the future. You'll hear from some or all of them down the road.

Brian, sorry we didn't get to hang the other night. Had to get on down the road. Hopefully next time. Got to talk to Clay some that nite. We realized that his grandfather was my first sax teacher. Small world.

Since I am in the USA at the moment, I will try to use iTunes and download the albums. I cannot access American iTunes in Japan....

You know what? I knew about this but never thought about the connection before. I have the Mingo CD's and Todd's CD but never thought about the same horn being used on both.
