Hi, in this period I am transcribing all the time, and I am fascinated in particular by other instruments than saxophone.
I find it useful to open our mind to different approaches. I have found that trumpet and piano players have a different swing feel than saxophonist and different harmonics solutions to the changes ,and I want to investigate more into that. (some weeks ago I transcribed a solo by Wynton Kelly)
I have transcribed this classic solo by Miles Davis on "Milestones" album.
It suits the baritone voice very nice in my opinion, what do you think?

When I first saw the thread title, I was taken aback for a second. Miles on baritone?! Didn't know he played bari, LOL...

But Miles phrases so nicely, it really works on that bari. Amazing how closely and tight you got it.

I love how you really managed to dig into the nuance and inflections albeit using the baritone voice... kudos!

On a side note, how were you able to commandeer your daughter's bedroom? I can only practice when my daughter is sleeping or napping and obviously can't practice in her room

@JL haha you're right! In my experience if you want to play tight and "glued" to the solo it's better spending more time singing the solo than playing it on saxophone. It seems silly, but it's very important. If you have the solo clear in your mind and you can sing it both rhyhmically and melodically on the record you have the potential to play it good before taking the saxophone. Of course it depends on the solo, if it is a super burning bebop tune you have to spend a lot of time on the sax too...but this is not the case.

@59Martin thank you! My daughter is almost nine years old. The nintendo switch hypnotizes her. But I have to be careful, it is like a drug for kids. Maybe it could be the same for me (super Mario is amazing), but she doesn't allow me to play it....but it is ok, since I'm working on a Coltrane's solo played on bari that is brutally difficult!!! It is hard on tenor, but way harder on baritone.I don't know if I will do it one day...but I'm struggling to do that.

Hi Lambros, yes I know. The tune is "Dr. Jackle", composed by Jackie Mc Lean (hence the title). On the LPs there was a print error "Dr. Jeckyll", that was corrected on the later copies.

Got it, and then I'm wrong that Miles' version of it is what was the original? '58-'59? The only versions I find of it by Jackie or no earlier than '66.
