Mike Allen the UK maker of flutes and headjoints has been around a while but I only just got around to trying his headjoints. I got two sent up on trial. I tried them this morning on my Muramatsu DS. What a difference!

They sent me a solid one with red riser and a brand new model that is polished brass with a solid lip plate. They are both tremendous.. Clear response and beautiful tone colour. I'm going to have a lot of fun with these in the holidays. I'm excited now to try his custom alto flute head.

Mike is a craftsman and had his grounding in the silversmith/jewellry trade - He's a great engineer too making nearly all his own tools, dies etc. He's a little eccentric but a real nice guy to talk too. The same can be said for Ian mclauchlan (www.headjoints.co.uk) his headjoints are top totch and if you havent tried one I would recommend you did.

I had the privillege of working with Ian for 5 years or so at Johnathan Myall music aka Just flutes until august this year when I decided to stop travelling the 4 hours each way to London once a week!
