Michael Brecker was my favorite player, and when it came to playing fast, he was the fastest. I had always hypothesized about what would happen, if Brecker was to play "Some Skunk Funk," while being on speed. I know this is crazy, but what if.... And it doesn't have to be even "Some Skunk Funk." That would be the most amazing thing that any musician would ever hear in their life. It even could just be change running and chord progressions.

Brecker was fast at what he was doing, but fast has to be defined. They're musicians that are faster on their feet in coming up with something unpredictable. Brecker could run his stock licks off like.... they were his stock licks.

Bob Berg could execute as fast as Brecker and he could run the changes in a more creative way.

Its not as simple as Brecker on speed = normal Brecker but faster, drugs make you think differently, alter your perceptions, create distractions and a whole lot more, not to mention kill your brain cells at an accelerated rate. They're nothing but negative when associated with playing and the best Brecker would have been a sobre one.

Stupid thread, no offense

...Or not..

I'm going to have to agree with dave here. We don't need any more musicians doing drugs, really. I honestly wouldn't have relished hearing Brecker play and thinking "Oh yeah, that was quick, it must be the speed." Sorry, Chuberry47. :)

I imagine Brecker played this tune on speed already (given his history). He must've figured it wasn't that beneficial as he chose to get clean long before he passed away.

I know where you're coming from though Chu, just enjoy it for what it is.
