Problem solved
I ended up getting one of the Yanagisawa ligatures (the obvious choice
) that would have originally come with the mouthpiece - I was in a music store and the guy had an old one that he sold me for $10 (list price was close to $50!). As I didnt have a ligature I was interested in hearing peoples opinions about what might have played well on it - Vandoren, Ultimate etc - to order through the internet (my local stores just dont carry this stuff!).
