First post here, gotta say this is an awesome site. Anyway, down to business. I found a Maxtone silver bari sax for around 300 bucks...I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet, but that will happen this week. I've tried using the search here, and google, and the only info I can find on Maxtone is about their sopranos, and they seem to be a somewhat decent low end sax. My question is has anyone on here had any experence with their bari saxes? I'm under no illusions that this is going to be an awesome horn, but the price is right, if the thing is somewhat playable.

Thanks for your time!

It may be playable, dont expect anything. For the love of God when you go to try it take a tuner!!!!!!!!

My money says you get some nasty suprises in that dept. If I were you I'd probably keep looking for a bit. A bari worth having is not likely to have a very low cost, sorry

Rented a Maxtone tenor for a few months because I was living in Italy and Air France wouldn't let me fly with mine. If we were talking about an alto or tenor and your repair tech was willing to work on them, I'd say you'd be okay for your $300 as long as the pads were in decent shape.

Bari? I dunno.... if you're new to the baritone, I'd probably suggest getting one that you know is a decent player and will stay in adjustment, because a bad one can really put you off the horn entirely.

Maxtone has several models pro level like a Mauriat and very inexpensive student models. I would also add that if it is older it may not be up to the quality that Taiwan is putting out today. At $300 you may have found a bargain but then again you have found a dud.
