Second post of the day from me but lastnight in my band i got the chance to hear a P Mauriat swing 66 (I think that's the one) tenor being played. At first when I heard of these saxes I was dubious as the advertising and endorsing seemed a little on the perhaps desparate side to try and justify that although they are made in Taiwan they are good saxes. So, Ok they sound quite dark and heavy but not alot different from the way I play my Jupiter... I will wait for the slating but it is my personal opinion that these saxes look fantastic but they don't sound as good as I had expected them to after all the ad hype surrounding them. I know I'm gonna get my **** kicked but I'm not that impressed with them :dontknow:

Most of the sound is the player, not the horn, isnt it?

Anyway...welcome to SOTW...just be carefull which of the thousands of sub forums you post in:)

Hello, thanks for welcoming me here! well, just to say that after my little outburst about the Mauriats I have since been along to another band rehearsil and the chap who plays one has been kind enough to let me use one for a few days to really see what I think. He has a few at the moment and when he played his 66R at band it sounded really warm and heavy - I got a better chance to open my ears and actually listen rather than jump on the bandwagon! I will be looking forward to giving it a right blast tonight and I will write again once I've played it :)

If some of what has been reported here is accurate, chances are your Jupiter and the Mauriat are the same Taiwanese saxophone from the same factory complex with a different stencil. I played a Jupiter tenor once and was impressed. I have a Jupiter soprano and like it very much.

Do mind your manners straight out of the gate. We like to keep it civil around here, and everyone agrees to abide by the same rules upon applying for membership.

I am moving this to the Mauriat forum where it belongs.

Cheers.

ok, look. sorry folks, and sorry Dave. I just didn't know how to do a new post in the correct section. I will post in the correct section from now on :) just seems that when I get on these forums I get people that I don't know from Adam having a go at me?! Seems a much bigger community than some of the other forums I visit. Sorry for starting off on the wrong foot.

Am I missing something, or are the New York Guy and the Viking Guy both selling these same saxophones under a different name?

colleen: Apology accepted. However, this wasn't the FIRST thread you opened in the Contrabass section (and to which I and as I recall, someone else commented, along with replying to the substance of your post). I see that the mods moved it.

New or not, it seems pretty basic about where to post. If you want answers or comments, we can provide them. Just treat us with respect, eh? DAVE

I too am having trouble creating a post.
I know I have done it before but that was about 6 mos. ago and since the
I am completely lost.
I have the forum bookmarked and that is where I always visit.
Is there there another place on sotw that I need to go to start a post?
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

At the top of the thread is a TOOLS button. Click there to open a new thread in the section in which you are located at the time. E.g., if in the Bb Soprano section, click TOOLS and then open a new thread under Bb Soprano.

OR, you could find a related thread somewhere by searching key words (there are lots of previously discussed saxophone issues) then post a reply in an appropriate thread. DAVE

Dave, I should change my name to "Big Dummy jazzsax" because I still can't figure it out.
If I go to the top of THIS PAGE, I see thread tools, it shows 3 options.
1. "Show printable version"
2. "Email this page"
3. "Subscribe to this thread"

Maybe I don't understand the terms, what I want to do is start a new topic.
Is that creating a post? or starting a new thread?

Also,Under Posting Rules it says-
You may post new threads
You may post replies
You may post attachments
You may edit your posts
P.S.And I am logged in.
Sorry to take this topic in a different direction.

New topic = New thread....just check for existing current discussion of a subject first using the search function.

Once you are sure a new thread is needed...go to the appropriate forum index page, (ie click on P.Mauriat for all things Mauriat related), or click on "Sax on the web forum" for the master index, or choose from the "Forum Jump" drop down box that's at the bottom right of virtually every page.

Once you are on an index or sub forum page then there will be a "New Thread" button pretty much where the "post reply" button is in an existing thread.

Double check you are in the right sub forum for what you are posting before clicking it, and remember to enter a thread title, and away you go.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Yes, there are TWO ways. Look for the NEW THREAD button on the upper left and the FORUM TOOLS in the upper right (with a pull-down menu which includes a new-thread link). These two methods are present when you reach the sub-section you want (for instance, under brands N-Z, or whatever the alpha distinction is), then click on the P.Mauriat sub-sub-section; those new-thread methods will appear.

I hope that Canadiain and I have helped you and Colleen figure it out. I have no idea how Colleen reached the CONTRABASS AND LOWER section, but that seems to have been straightened out.

But remember, almost anything a new poster may want to ask about has already been discussed on SOTW. That's why doing a search first is always helpful to all of us. Posting a question about which mouthpiece will work with my TrueTone or what affect gold-plating may have on my sound (oh NO!!) has been discussed a lot. So, find an appropriate thread and merely add a new post to THAT thread. It will work almost always. DAVE

Yes, I will treat everybody on here with respect as that is how I would wish to be treated. Thanks for the advice on posting everyone and I will pay attention to where I am posting from now on :) I am playing the Mauriat 60NS tenor tonight. Can't wait and will do a little review about it if I get chance! Have a good weekend everyone.

Colleen, I hope you enjoy the 60ns. I like mine a lot but the springs on it were so strong I had to have some work done on it to loosen it up. If you can, try it also with the Super VI neck. I use the VI neck with the vintage finish and it gives more life to the core and a slight bit of edge without changing the natural character of the horn that much.

Let us know what you think.

Marshall
