For a vintage Mark VI soprano, which one would you choose, with or without high F# key?

Aren't they all vintage? It probably doesn't matter as much on a soprano as it might on a tenor or alto since those tone holes are so small and very close together.

If I had a choice, I'd opt for no hi-F#. It is a note I have on four of my sops but one which I never use. So to simplify things, I would opt not to have it. DAVE

I don't care to hear a high F# on most sops. If I played a Mk VI with that key and the horn sounded good, I wouldn't care. If it played well and didn't have the high F#, the lack of that key would not prevent me from buying it.

I'll admit, it was tough. Until I got a more open mouthpiece.

If it is for the beauty of the collectible vintage, I'd say without. If it is for playability, it would be a japanese horn anyway, and rather with it.

My Selmer has the high F# and i don't use it very much.

Perhaps an old thread but is there a somewhere to say from the serials which ones had High F# and which didn't?

I've heard by many players that like MKVI sopranos that the ones WITH hi F# have overall better intonation thru out. Again, not my opinion, but what some very good players who like these horns have told me.

A question here maybe:
A tech I talked to said that he had two mark VI and both played out of tune and that he had to do work due to bad tolerance. What does he mean by tolerance?
