Hearing about Ira Sullivan reminded me to post about another old friend Mark Colby. I knew him first as a high school clarinetist who played in the youth groups at the U of Miami where I was. I always wanted to play clarinet like him but I was stuck as a tenor player. As the years passed, he really shot up as a tenor great and I became a clarinetist....hmmm.
He was a big part of the Chicago scene and a great educator. Chicago lost two recently....

I was a student in Miami , saw Mark many times around town or campus playing. Always enjoyed the musicality he brought to a band.
