I saw that!
Hugely tempting, but since I dumped nearly that much money into getting my Music Man completely overhauled, hard to justify inside my head.

...which is too bad because I really want it.

Original neck and brass end plug too. Did you know that some came with Sterling necks? Martin and King silver necks disappeared in droves during the '80s when gold and silver went sky high. I also think you're looking at an overhaul although it probably does play as-is, so I probably would try to get it for $1750.

Are there differences other than cosmetic between it and the Comm III?
No. They both play the same. They start out with all the same parts which get different finishes than the regular. They do take the 'rug beater' key guard and braze the bell key adjusters on. The later CIIIs even had some of the Magna features.

Plus "...it is in good condition overall. You can play as it is..." doesn't fill me with confidence that it wouldn't want another $1K to be really nice.

I wouldn't go that far. Usually if a seller is willing to state it does play...you can assume it does play (some)....and really on MOST cases....$400-500 should be able to bring it into excellent playing shape. For that $, most techs would do a disassemble, bath, replace 5 to 8 pads, tweak other keycups as necessary, and lube and regulate. Yeah the pads wouldn't all be spanking new...but they really do not need to be in order for a horn to perform very well.

I think people tend to 'jump' to a conclusion that a repad or overhaul is required when it really isn't.

So I agree, for $1800 don't expect to have a dialed-in Magna, but probably another $350-500 of work can get you there...still not a bad deal for a $2100-2300 investment.

There is a certain amount of freedom to be enjoyed, not being compelled to comb ebay and secondhand sales sites for horns you don't need. Seemed like another life that was, when I was so inclined.
But why have one when you can have 50? Seriously, there comes a point when the acquisition/disposition process becomes consuming. It think that point was reached awhile ago. I might as well just open a store :p

On the flip side, a little more practice time instead of immersing myself in the market(s) would be nice...
